My family has often enjoyed this dish to celebrate special occasions, like Christmas and Easter. Recently, I decided to refine it and it has turned out to be a wonderful spicy-sweet dish that is perfect for many occasions! I hope you enjoy!
Ingredients
2 whole apples (peeled, cored, and cut into 8 slices each)
2 - 8oz tubes of crescent rolls
1 Stick (1/2 cup) salted butter
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3/4 cup ginger ale, I prefer Canada Dry
1/4 cup orange juice
cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 F. Spray a 9"x13" pan with nonstick cooking spray.
Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll and place in prepared pan, slightly away from edge.
In a medium sauce pan, over medium heat, melt butter. Once melted add sugar, vanilla and cloves. Stir until combined, it will still be a bit grainy. Pour butter mixture over crescent rolls.
In a separate bowl, or a glass measuring cup combine ginger ale and orange juice.
Pour orange juice and ginger ale mixture around edges of pan and down the center, avoiding pouring directly over the crescent rolls. Sprinkle cinnamon over crescent rolls.
Bake for 40 min.
Allow to fully cool, the sauce will thicken as it cools.
Enjoy!
This dish is great as is, but if you would like to top with vanilla ice cream, or whipped topping with a dash of cinnamon, it is amazing as well!
